Indonesia is a diverse country and each province has its language. Born in Indonesia first learned motherhood language. in my case, a son from two different ethnicities has to acquire Acehnese language and Palembangnese. We developed this from society and home.
Next, learning Indonesian as our national language. 12 years of studying has improved our Indonesian language. from writing, speaking, reading, and listening.
Furthermore, English is a global language. My personal experience developing these skills is painful. I would say I was forced by my parent to learn. I did not enjoy this at all in junior high school. Experiencing English in tutoring environment still my skills not improving significantly and keep falling behind my friends in class.
Saw English language as a monster, my childhood memories. I try to avoid it. But something changed during my senior high school. I fell in love with English because the tutor is an engaging and motivated person. Also surrounded by an English environment in school. But, still not the one who really high score in English. Even, my friend mocked me when I learning English. (most of the people in North Aceh at that time saw English language as an evil language). But, here is a thing, now my friend now sees me as an example of perseverance and example of keep progress :)
Entering university life is changing my perception of English completely. We have been privileged to go to Malaysia for Student Exchange program and observing people from around the world interacting in English is opening my eyes. Now, perceiving English language as a learning language and connecting tools open new opportunities for the world.
So, for those who have experience learning English is difficult. My advice is to keep progressing. My friend said if you can't fly then run, if can't run then walk, if can't walk then crawl. The point is to keep going!
You can do it, my friend! I believe in you.
